Stutz Club Members:
The recent Grand Stutz in Gettysburg, Pennsylvania was a great success. We had nearly 35 participants including members from three different countries. Thankfully, the weather was great and Dan and Mary DiThomas put together a full agenda. Bob Praetorius has been planning to host the Grand Stutz for several years and this year he did it. What a great venue for a car show and activities.
I know the women were entertained by the Tea Party that Mary scheduled with a local B&B. I don’t know how much tea or other liquids were consumed, but we got concerned when they did not return to the hotel until late in the afternoon.
We had a good showing of Stutz automobiles at the show. There were twelve cars, some of which are seldom seen. A good variety of early as well as 30’s cars, and both restored and unrestored cars.
We brought our 1931 DV32 convertible sedan to the Grand Stutz. Sunday, after the Stutz gathering, we drove it to Roanoke, Virginia to catch up with the CCCA CARavan that was in progress. Not the best day for traveling, it rained most of the morning but “Big Blue” made it with few problems. This is the second CARavan we have done with the car. Last year we drove it from St. Louis to New Orleans. After hooking up with the CCCA group in Roanoke, we drove to Asheville, North Carolina to visit the Biltmore Mansion and then back to Virginia ending up in Charlottesville. I put over 1,000 miles on the car this time with very few problems and did not even use a quart of oil. The car continues to impress me. If Stutz could have hung on in 1934, they would have dominated the luxury car market.
I would like to welcome our new members to the club. I think you will find this organization of great help in finding parts and communicating Stutz specific information. Also, the camaraderie of the club makes for many fun experiences. I urge you to become active in the club.
We will again have our annual get together in Hershey this year. Please put it on your calendar. If you have not been to Hershey for the Fall AACA meet you are missing one of the most significant car events of the year. See you there.
